Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026.
Word Ladder Generator is operated by Richard Gao. This policy says what the site collects.
What is collected now
- Page visits. A cookieless analytics service, Umami, receives the page address. If you open a ladder, that address includes the start word and the end word. Umami also receives browser language, screen size, device type, the referring page, and a coarse location derived from the network address. The recorded page title is “Word Ladder Generator.” Browsers that send Do Not Track are not measured. Visits from the developer’s own computer are not measured.
- Your attempt, on your device. The words you type for a ladder are saved in this browser (IndexedDB) so a reload can continue the same try, and so the same pairing cannot be replayed until the next local day. That save is not sent to the operator.
- Host logs. The site runs on Google Cloud Run. The host may keep ordinary request logs, which can include the network address and the requested address, for security and operations.
There is no account. The site does not ask for your name, email, or phone number. The site does not sell personal information.
Why
Analytics are used to see which ladders people open and whether the site is working. The browser save exists so the game can remember today’s attempt on that device. Host logs exist so the service can run and so abuse can be investigated.
Who else receives it
Umami processes the visit measurement. Google processes the hosting, the host logs, and the ads. Google AdSense may use cookies to choose and measure ads. Those companies handle that data under their own terms. The operator does not give the word list of your attempt to them. The attempt stays in the browser.
How long it stays
The attempt in the browser stays until you clear this site’s data, or until the browser removes it. Umami and Google keep the visit data and logs they receive for their ordinary retention periods.
Ads and future collection
Google AdSense may show ads. Where the law requires permission before advertising cookies, Google’s consent message asks first. Any new collection that is not described above will be added here before it starts.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13, and the operator does not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent personal information, write through the contact below.
Your choices
You can turn on Do Not Track in your browser to opt out of Umami measurement. You can clear this site’s data to delete the saved attempt. You can stop using the site. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, delete, or correct personal information the operator holds, and to appeal a refusal. Send that request through the contact below. The operator will not discriminate against you for making a request the law allows.
